How to design a data center cold alley and hot alley: Very ImportantTake note of how the hot air at the hot alley at the back of the rack and servers are ventilated to the top using ventilation air vets and from there, the hot air are cooled. After being cooled, the cold air is pumped back into the cold alley in front of the racks and servers. This is a circular effect. Where the hot and cold air goes in a circle. Therefore, when you are designing your data center or redesigning your data center(s). Make sure that you put this very important concept in place. Many data centers which I had administered and visited do not have hot air ventilation outlet. And there are no hot alley or cold alley in place. The racks and air cons are dumped in the wrong places.

What are the best practices of a server network data center: See Google's Giant Container Data center and best practicesThese are some of the important things and considerations when you are designing your data center (Either big or small). Consider these before you contact your vendor for a quotation, so that you are better prepared to talk to them. - Bandwidth requirements and cost
- Total number of servers now and near future (Estimated)
- The floor plan layout
- Design of you network cables, patch panels location
- Aircon - With Humidifier control and temperature control
- Monitoring system for your data center equipments
- Your cold alley and hot alley
- Ventilations for hot air outlets
- Rise floors
- UPS
- Where is your main power source coming from
- Where is your DB (Power distribution board)
- Any switch board?
- Is your power enough to support all the equipments
- One source of power or two sources
- One UPS or two UPS
- Cool air from rised floor or normal via the aircon top vet?
- Racks
- Backbone switches, cable fiber, etc
- Security
- What data center class do you need? Or low cost data center
- Any hot sites, cold sites
- Disaster recovery
- Etc
In other words be prepared when you talk to your data center vendor

How to make a cross over cable for PC to PC connection without using a switch or hubNow that you know how to make your own straight cables. You will also need to learn how to make your own cross cables. What are cross cables used for? When you do not have a switch or hub to connect between your two PCs, laptops, desktops, servers or you want to have more network points by connecting two switches. You will need to have a cross cable. This is a very useful cable. Some servers' console connection will also need a cross cable to connect up to them when you need to do rebooting or access to the console to troubleshooting server issues. PC1=-----------Cross Cable----------------=PC2 Cross Cable can be used to connect two PCs, desktops, laptops or servers if you do not have a switch or hub. And you want to transfer large amount of data between them (E.g. Backup, File transfer, etc) Switch1(24ports)=-----------Cross Cable---------------=Switch2(24ports) Cross Cable the two switches to make them to have a total of 48 ports -2(Used by the cross cable) Following is the video on how to make a cross over cable (Not so clear but you can take note of the cross cable's color codes)
